Chemical pregnancies are usually caused by chromosomal problems which prevent the fetus from developing properly. Other causes can be from not enough uterine lining, uterine abnormalities such as fibroids, low hormone levels, luteal phase defect, or some infections. A vast number of chemical pregnancies are unable to be prevented. If recurrent chemical pregnancies happen, a doctor should investigate to find the optimum treatment. Possible treatment options are vitamin B6 (at least 50mg a day), progesterone cream, and baby aspirin. If infection is the cause, antibiotics will be prescribed. If fibroids are the cause, surgery to remove them may be necessary.
